Steel Commuter Bike That Can Do it All There is no such thing as one bike that can do it all, but Cross-Check comes pretty damn close. It's a dyed-in-the-wool commuter and utility rig. It was a "gravel crusher" long before "gravel bikes" existed. Some people have even raced cyclocross on it. Though, we don't necessarily condone that behavior. Cross-Check was the first complete bike we ever offered. Since then, people have modified them hundreds of different ways to suit their riding styles and preferences. There’s a reason that nearly every person who has ever worked for Surly has owned one. - Semi-horizontal dropouts for singlespeed compatibility and wheelbase adjustability - Gnot-Rite dropout spacing allows installation of 130 and 135mm hubs - Accommodations for front and rear racks and fenders - Clearance for 700c x 42mm tires with or without fenders

A bike for any day and anywhere. Fun and light to rip around the neighborhood for meet ups, running errands, or Sunday fun days.

When Benno made a Ballooner prototype a few years ago, they found that they enjoyed riding it more than any other bike. The very balanced geometry is comfortable and sporty, which allows for a longer, more purposeful ride. Elevated specs, including hydraulic disc brakes and an 8-speed internal hub, provide a smooth, almost effortless riding experience. The big, plush tires provide a comfortable and controlled ride. Studies have proven that in many road conditions quality high volume tires actually have less rolling resistance than skinny tires. In most urban settings, you'll often find yourself on rougher, less than perfect roads – another situation made better by a wider tire. All in all, the Ballooner is a real gentleman: humble, polite, elegant and extremely capable. A modern retro-style everyday commuter.

Built with everyday adventures, urban commutes, and errand-running in mind, Larkspur models are as well at home in the concrete jungle, ready for dicing it up on the bike paths and cutting through parks on the way to the grocery store or class, as they are on long cruises on dirt roads and meandering double track. The durable and smooth-riding steel frames are dressed with parts picked specifically for their durability in everyday use, such as hydraulic disc brakes, robust drivetrains, tough wheels with multisurface tires, and the ability to add a variety of commuting accessories so you can customize the bike for your daily needs. Steel Frame Larkspur models feature a butted Series 2 frame with a mixte stepthru design for easy mounting and dismounting, even with baskets and baby seats. Disc Brakes Hydraulic disc brakes provide smooth, controlled stopping in all conditions with minimal maintenance. - CrMo steel frame and fork - Shimano Deore 1x11 drivetrain - Shimano Deore hydraulic disc brakes - Vee Tire 27.5 x 2.35" tires - TranzX dropper post

Benno loved the idea of inspiring people to use their bikes to carry loads — from grocery runs and hauling chairs and a cooler to the beach to dropping off oversized packages at the post office. But looking at most cargo bikes, they wondered if they really had to be so long, cumbersome and hard to store. It seems like a big commitment to ride around on one of those with all the welded on racks and extensions. Do you really need a bike that big to carry a little more? Instead of making a cargo bike smaller, they decided to make a regular bike slightly longer and stick with a tried-and-true attachable (and interchangeable) rack system. These racks are larger, made of stronger, oversized tubing and attached with extra-large bolts. The front tray is mounted directly to the frame so your steering won’t be affected, even when fully loaded. The Carry On is a clean utility bike that will carry a baby seat and 4 large grocery bags, or all the gear you need for a fun beach day or a camping trip. The different rack options let you pick your own configuration, while the 24” wheels keep your center of gravity low. You might be wondering why the tires are so wide. Have you ever seen a truck with skinny tires?

The Presidio is Marin's dedicated commuter bike, designed with low maintenance and adaptability in mind. Its efficient design gives it the speed of a road bike, while its comfortable yet sporty geometry keeps you aware of what's going on around you, making it perfect for moving rapidly through urban streets. The lightweight aluminum frame feature all of the attachment points and braze-ons that commuters demand, while the internally geared rear hub requires little to no maintenance for the life of the bike. The Presidio's myriad of purpose-built commuter components helps you worry about the commute, and not worry about the mechanicals. The Hydraulic disc brakes offer more than just safe, secure stopping power in all conditions, but also enhances long-term service, as there are no cables or housing to wear out. Puncture resistant tires ensure your commute isn't abrupted by debris in the road, and their reflective sidewalls help keep you visible in low light conditions. A semi-plush saddle, ergonomic grips, and large platform pedals are ideal for riding comfortably in a variety of clothes and shoes and make it easy to get out and enjoy your commute. - Gates Carbon Belt Drive - 8-speed internally geared rear hub

It’s got accommodations for racks and fenders front and rear. Because it takes those big tires, so you can outfit it to suit where and how you’ll use it. It’s a cyclocross bike by design but that’s not how most people use it. It does as good a job getting you across the country as it does getting you across town. This bike comes from Surly built with a Shimano drivetrain, and traditional bar-end Shifters. Tektro linear-pull brakes provide ample stopping power, so you can cruise without fear!

Steel Commuter and Gravel Bike Preamble is a hard-boiled steel commuter built for comfort, durability, and buffoonery on pavement and gravel. Nothing More is Needed. Nothing Less Will Do. The challenge was thus: Build a serious steel bike and give it only the attributes that matter most. Make it quick and comfortable on pavement, as well as confident and compliant on degraded surfaces. What the Enginerds put forth is Preamble, a pavement and gravel utility worker that proves you don't need to cut corners or clip coupons to make a more affordable steel bike. You just need to keep shit simple. Preamble can run racks and fenders and carry a couple water bottles. Surly was raised on stealing basic cable, after all. Smooth and efficient on asphalt, Preamble's double-butted main triangle provides a resplendent ride feel and withstands abuse from life's inevitable potholes. Make it your own with flat bars, drop bars, a basket, or bags. On the road to steel euphoria, Preamble is the gateway drug.
