Look Road BIkes

585

For 2005, Look's tried-and-true lugged carbon fiber frames get a dramatic facelift and weight reduction. The 585 uses High-modulus carbon fiber. High-modulus carbon fibers are structurally pure. This purification process makes the natural properties of the fibers stiffer than standard high-resistance carbon fiber. With stiffer fibers, it requires fewer overall layers to achieve the optimal balance of strength, rigidity, and comfort. Fiber for fiber, high-modulus and high-resistance weigh the same, but overall, high-modulus is a more rigid fiber. Fewer layers naturally mean lighter weight. The tubes are extremely butted to reduce weight even more.

The 585 is Look's first frame to fly below the 1000 gram ceiling. It does so by using lighter tubes than ever and by using 100% carbon lugs. The bottom bracket lug is perhaps the most technologically advanced part of a bicycle in recent years. This proprietary new bottom bracket lug is the heart of this frame, and sets it apart from any other frame on the market. Laterally stout, this bottom bracket helps to make this featherweight frame light and efficient, making it that much easier to scale those alpine passes.

And, on top of all that, this frame is gorgeous. Comes with the new, ultra-light Look HSC 5 full carbon (een the dropouts) fork. $3000 frame, fork, & headset

555

The only difference between the 585 and the 555 is the bottom bracket. The 555 uses a cost-saving aluminum bottom bracket. Same super high-modulus tubeset and carbon lugs elsewhere. So, it's a little heavier, but so is your wallet after the purchase. About 1300 grams for the frame, and you still get the full-carbon HSC 5 fork. $2200 frame, fork, & headset
