2016 Nippy Niner Athlete Letter

Nippy Niner Trail Update!: We have had a lot of questions regarding the Nippy Niner and whether or not we will be able to hold the event at the Columbia Bottoms Conservation area post Flood of '15.

The BAD NEWS is the the Columbia Bottom Conservation Area is unusable due to recent flooding. The GOOD NEWS is we are going to hold the Nippy Niner but are headed for higher ground. For 2016 we are relocating the event to the bluff above Columbia Bottoms at Spanish Lake County Park. The new course will offer a similar mix of paved, gravel and trail although there will be a bit more elevation change.

Curious about the condition of Columbia Bottoms Conservation Area? Check out these- Image Gallery.

The OLD Course: The Nippy Niner is a nine mile (15K) paved, gravel and off-road trail run that begins on a gentle gravel road leading to the historic confluence point of the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers and then returns on the undulating River's Edge Trail.  The race starts on an open plain winding it's way through the wetlands and migratory bird habitats before entering the dense bottomland forest alongside the Missouri River and returning on gravel roads to the finish. Fast, Flat and extra Nippy.

The NEW Course: The Spanish Lake County Park Course features a paved start and finsh around the lower lake- then a short uphill jaunt to to the Upper Park fields. After the flat and fast start the run will head out onto the cross country and mountain bike trails that circle the upper lake. The 15K runners will two loops of the upper park, the 9K will do one lap. There will be one stiff climb back to the upper trails.
